Other Experience

In 2007 I ran for the open Richmond Common (City) Council District 4 seat in a contested general election. I was elected to that seat on Common Council and subsequently re-elected, without opposition (in both the primary and general elections), in 2011 and 2015. I chose not to run for reelection in 2019.

As a member of the elected (and televised) legislative and fiscal body for the largest city in Wayne County, I participated in many matters of significant public interest and, sometimes, controversy. I made every effort to be educated on the issues that came before Council and attempted to treat all interested citizens with courtesy and respect. I believe it was my preparation, temperament, and conduct on Council that led me to being re-elected twice without opposition even when Council dealt with some difficult and controversial issues.

I served as Richmond Common Council President in 2010 and 2014. I served as Council Vice-President in 2009, 2012, and 2013.
By virtue of being an elected member of Richmond Common Council, I served on the Board of Directors for Richmond Power & Light from January 2008 to December 2019. I served as Chairman of the Board in 2016 and Vice-Chairman in 2011. I also served on various committees for Richmond Power & Light.
In 2022 – 2023, I served as President of the Wayne County Election Board which is tasked with ensuring fair open elections and promoting enfranchisement of legal voters.

I have been active in local politics. I served as Vice-Chairman of the Wayne County Republican Party from 2009 to 2012. I served twice as a delegate to the Indiana Republican Convention. From approximately 2001 to 2021 I served as a Wayne County Precinct Committeeman for the Wayne County Republican Party.
